Objectives of nymphoplasty
Nymphoplasty, sometimes called labioplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the size of the labia minora of the vulva and correct any major asymmetry, without omitting, if necessary, the reduction of the anterior extensions on either side of the clitoris.

The aim is to achieve a harmonious vulva, with the size of the labia minora in proportion to the size of the labia majora and the volume of the vulva.
Depending on the indications, this procedure can sometimes be accompanied by a reduction of the labia majora, which appear too large either because of excess skin or fat, or, on the contrary, the surgeon can perform lipofilling of the labia majora if they are too small or even non-existent.
Who should undergo nymphoplasty?
Nymphoplasty is intended for patients with hypertophia of the vaginal labia minora who are embarrassed by this aspect, with repercussions on their social and sexual life, and a psychological impact.

Labia minora hypertrophy is defined by an excessive size of the labia minora compared to the labia majora. In the upright position, the labia minora protrude from the vulval slit, causing patients to refer to their labia minora as “hanging”.
Hypertrophy is most often bilateral, preserving the physiological asymmetry of the labia minora, with the left labia naturally more prominent than the right; however, it can also be unilateral.
Sometimes, the hypertrophy extends forward, creating folds on either side of the clitoris. Hypertrophy of the labia minora often causes discomfort when wearing tight jeans, thongs or tight-fitting swimsuits, or when taking part in certain sports (cycling, horse-riding, climbing). Discomfort during intercourse is variable, less physical (interposition of the labia minora during penetration) than psychological (embarrassment at being naked in front of a partner).
This appearance is most often seen at puberty (primary juvenile hypertrophy), but can also occur after childbirth or at menopause (secondary hypertrophy due to vulvoptosis or false hypertrophy, which is not treated in the same way as classic hypertrophy). Nymphoplasty can be performed on adults of any age.
The procedure will have no subsequent negative impact on sexual relations or childbirth.
Nymphoplasty is a surgical procedure that can involve risks and complications. A first consultation with your surgeon is essential to know if this intervention is adapted to your particular situation.
Nymphoplasty procedure
Nymphoplasty will positively transform your intimacy. The results are definitive.
Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The first consultation is essential to understand your request and your motivations. A preliminary clinical examination and a precise questioning will allow our specialist to define the most appropriate type of surgery for your case.
Your surgeon will take all the time necessary to understand your discomfort and the level of correction required for the labia minora.
He will also check whether the size of the labia majora can be improved to cover the labia minora and achieve a harmonious, rejuvenated appearance of the vulva. A preoperative check-up will be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions.
Anesthesia
The choice of the technique will be made between you, your anesthesiologist and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your procedure.
The day of the procedure
Your surgeon will adapt his operating strategy according to your particular case in order to obtain the best possible result. He will remove the excess labial mucosa while preserving the original shape of the labia minora.
The surgeon makes an incision from top to bottom, and the cut mucosal edges are then sutured with absorbable thread. This “longitudinal” technique has the advantage of being safe and flexible.
It treats not only the hypertrophy of the labia minora, but also the anterior extension if necessary, and reduces the hyperpigmentation frequently associated with it.
Scars on the labia minora are invisible in the long term. At the end of the procedure, a light dressing is placed in a protective slip.
Depending on the surgeon and the clinical case, the procedure can last from 30 to 60 minutes.
After the procedure
Reduction nymphoplasty is a painless procedure. The post-operative period is generally painless, requiring only simple analgesics.
Minimal bleeding lasts 2 to 3 days. Swelling and bruising are common, and gradually diminish over a fortnight.
Showering is permitted from the day after surgery, and thorough genital cleansing is recommended after each micturition.
Wear loose-fitting clothing until the healing process is complete. Socio-professional activities can be resumed a few days after the operation, and sexual and sporting activities after 4 weeks.
Results
The final result, already clearly visible after one month, can be appreciated between 3 and 6 months after the operation, when the post-operative oedema has disappeared. Scars fade in 1 to 2 months.
Reduction nymphoplasty is a reliable and effective procedure with significant aesthetic, functional and psychological benefits for patients.
The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.

Around the surgery
The first consultation
The first appointment is essential to identify your needs and expectations. Our specialists will take all the necessary time to understand your demand and offer you the best advice.
Anesthesia
Sensitive to the potentially traumatic dimension of any operation, Laclinic's doctors pay close attention to pain management to make the operation as comfortable and safe as possible.
Associated treatments
Nymphoplasty can generally be combined with other complementary procedures if necessary, such as lipofilling (fat autografting) of the vaginal labia majora or, on the contrary, their reduction (liposuction) if they are too large.
Augmentation of the labia majora with hyaluronic acid
There is a non-invasive alternative for augmenting the labia majora: hyaluronic acid injections.
The aim is to plump up the labia majora which have lost volume after weight loss or with age.
Injections restore the lips’ full, youthful and sensual appearance. Results are immediate and last between 12 and 18 months.
