Objectives of a breast reduction
Breast reduction surgery is a very common procedure whose goal is toreduce the volume of the breast.
Breast hypertrophy is defined by excessive breast volume in relation to the patient’s morphology. This excess volume is generally associated with sagging breasts (breast ptosis) and sometimes with a certain degree of asymmetry.

The procedure removes excess breast tissuein order to obtain a volume in harmony with the silhouette of the patient and in accordance with her wishes. The residual breast volume is lifted, concentrated and remodeled. The chest regains a rejuvenated curve and a firmer appearance.
The rate of patient satisfaction after this operation is very high, the benefit being found both in terms of weight balance and psychological wellness.

Before and after pictures
The breast reduction procedure
A breast reduction plasty will positively transform the harmony of your figure. Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The first consultation is essential to identify your request and your motivations . Depending on your morphology and your anatomy, your surgeon will determine his operating strategy.
It will be important during this consultation to carefully assess the quality of the skin and the mammary gland.
During the operation, the surgeon will also work to correct any asymmetry of shape or volume.
A preoperative check-up will be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions.
Anesthesia
A breast reduction surgery can sometimes take place on an outpatient basis under either general anesthesia or local deep sedation, but most often, a 24-hour stay in clinics is advised. The choice of the technique will be made between you, your anesthesiologist and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your procedure.
The day of the procedure
Your surgeon will adapt his operating strategy according to your particular case in order to obtain the best possible result.
Once the excess mammary gland is removed, the remaining gland is repositioned and the skin envelope is redraped.
The areola and the nipple are also repositioned. An areolar incision is associated with a vertical incision and a horizontal scar hidden in the groove under the breast (inverted T-scar).
At the end of the operation, a compression dressing is applied. It will be removed after 24 hours and replaced by a sports compression bra. The intervention generally lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
After the procedure
The postoperative course is not very painful, pain being relieved by analgesics. Swelling (oedema) and bruising (bruising) of the breasts, as well as discomfort in raising the arms are frequently observed. Everything returns to normal after two to three weeks.
A rest period of several days is necessary and it is recommended to avoid sports activities for at least 3 weeks. Silicone dressings will protect the scars for a period of 3 to 4 months, in order to improve their quality.
A sports bra must be worn for 3 weeks day and night, then at night only for the following 3 weeks. Manual lymphatic drainage from the first days, followed by drainage by Endermologie® are recommended to accelerate the resorption of the edema and optimize the healing process.
Results
The results are optimal 2 to 3 months after the operation , the time for the edema to subside and for all the breast tissue to adapt to the new volume.
The operated breast remains natural, sensitive to hormonal changes and weight variations. Breastfeeding is still possible after the operation .
The final result can be assessed from one year after the operation.
The chest regains a harmonious shape. Symmetry is improved.
The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.
