What is abdominal etching ?
Abdominal etching (also called high-definition belly liposculpture or abdominal etching) is a largeted liposuction technique that allows your surgeon to sculpt the abdominal muscle reliefs to make them stand out , and thus obtain the appearance of an athletic and firm belly.

The technique is adapted according to the sex of the patient.
This modelage of the abdomen will reveal these three types of muscular relief: the 6-packwhich corresponds to the rectus abdominis muscles, the V of Apollo on the hips, corresponding to the insertions of the oblique muscles, and the white line which corresponds to the median furrow between the umbilicus and the sternum.
This plastic surgery technique differs from liposuction because small amounts of fat are left in specific areas to amplify muscle volume and increase relief.
While liposuction removes unwanted fat and slims the body in one or more areas, liposculpture aims for a more dramatic transformation by strategically removing and leaving fat behind to create the illusion of muscle tone.
Who is HD Liposculpture for?
Good candidates for abdominal etching are generally athletic and thin people who are unable to obtain sufficient results despite regular exercise and a healthy diet.

Abdominal etching will therefore be suitable for people who wish to increase the definition of the abdominal muscles and eliminate stubborn belly fat .
High definition belly liposculpture is not suitable for patients with significant accumulations of abdominal fat, because the amount of fat eliminated during a HD liposculpture is relatively small.
In these cases, it is advisable to start with a classic liposuction of the belly. Abdominal etching is a surgical procedure that can involve risks and complications.
A first consultation with your surgeon is essential to know if this intervention is adapted to your particular situation.
Details of an abdominal etching procedure
A High Definition liposuction (HD liposculpture or abdominal etching) will positively transform the harmony of your figure .
Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The first consultation is essential to understand your request and your motivations. Depending on your morphology and your anatomy, your surgeon will determine his operating strategy.
Your surgeon carries out a precise and exhaustive examination of your body to assess the quantity of fatty tissue and to verify that the quality of your skin is sufficiently elastic to qualify for abdominal etching.
An interview about your sports and eating habits is also recommended during this consultation.
A preoperative check-up will be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions.
Anesthesia
In some cases, abdominal etching takes place on an outpatient basis or with overnight hospitalization, sometimes under general anesthesia but most often local anesthesia under sedation may be sufficient . The choice of the technique will be made between you, your anesthesiologist and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your procedure.
The day of the procedure
Your surgeon will adapt his operating strategy according to your particular case in order to obtain the best possible result.
He begins by drawing detailed and precise markings of the abdominal and pectoral muscles.
Then he will perform liposculpture, which consists of removing fat from specific places to highlight your muscular structure.
Through small incisions, the surgeon will remove fat in certain areas and redistribute it in other areas to accentuate the muscles of the abdomen and the white line.
The incisions are very small and the scars will be almost invisible. At the end of the operation, the surgeon places a modeling dressing to fix the skin to the muscle and bone structures. Finally, a postoperative compression panty is placed over the modeling dressing.
The abdominal etching procedure generally lasts from 2 to 3 hours, depending on the objectives to be achieved.
After the procedure
Abdominal etching is an intervention in which the pain is similar to strong aches . It can be relieved with a simple analgesic treatment.
Swelling and bruising in the abdomen may appear and resolve within 3 weeks. Most patients are able to return to normal work after one week. Sport activities can be resumed after a month.
The bandage and sheath must be continuously worn for 10 days. The sheath should be worn for another month. Compression stockings are worn for 14 days, and anticoagulant injections are prescribed for 14 days.
For a quick recovery, it is recommended to avoid putting too much pressure on the abdominal area or lifting heavy objects for 2 weeks.
Manual lymphatic drainage from the first days, followed by drainage by Endermologie® will ease the resorption of edema and accelerate the healing.
Results
The muscular reliefs are immediately visible but for a definitive result, it is necessary to wait 3 to 6 months for the skin to soften, for the subcutaneous tissues to deflate and for the skin to stick completely to the areas of muscular insertion.
The final result is spectacular. It can be fully appreciated after 6 months and usually brings great satisfaction to the patients. It should be noted that the result will be definitive if you keep a healthy lifestyle and practice sport regularly, but may be compromised in the event of weight gain or cessation of sporting activities.
The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.
